Old Fashioned Tips for Carpet Cleaning

There are so many ways, in which you can maintain your carpet, but you are never sure which one is the best. Have you ever wondered how your grandmother always keeps her flooring in perfect condition? Well, it’s time to take out of the closet the tested – and – proven techniques for carpet cleaning.

We are talking old school here, so you need to get the right cleaning tools. Can you recall the wooden brushes with hard bristles? This is what you need for a good rubbing and a deep carpet cleaning. Although, vacuuming is a fast and quite efficient way to maintain your rugs and carpets, it is futile for deep stains. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a professional carpet cleaning service, you can achieve amazing results by simply using a brush and a good – quality detergent.

Stop rearranging your furniture in order to cover those nasty stains. Admit it; hiding the spots will not make them miraculously disappear. For water spills, you can simply use a cloth to dry it out. For more persistent stains like wine or pet urine you will need something stronger. You don’t need to look for a magical solution. Just go to the bathroom and steal your husband’s shaving cream. Place it over the soiled area and let it work for a while. After that, get a clean moist rag, wipe out the shaving cream and drain it with a clean cloth. This is ideal for fabrics because it gently cleans the spot, without harming the fabric.

On the other hand, baking soda and flour is a good alternative, especially for greasy stains. The key is to act immediately. Sprinkle one of these cooking ingredients over the stained surface. Let it stay for a while. You need to wait half an hour. Baking soda and flour have the superpowers of extracting the grease from the fabrics.

Carpet steam cleaning was not that popular back in the old day. Still your grandmother was able to keep the perfect appearance of the flooring. All you need is a carpet shampoo, a bucket and a brush. The rest is just scrubbing. The advantage of this method is that you can control the amount of water, while with carpet steam cleaning your flooring is left soaking wet.

Pets and indoor smoking will make your carpet or rug smell grose. Refresh your carpet by removing the unpleasant odours. Use a mixture with 1 cup of borax and 2 cups of corneal and then spread it over the flooring. Cornstarch will also do the job. Leave for a while and then vacuum the carpet or the rug. You will feel and most importantly smell the difference immediately. This is an all time classic that gives stunning results.

Still, prevention is the best way to keep your flooring in good shape. Don’t let your pet roll over the carpet or make your home smoke – free area.

I agree with you. You can also invest a good quality vacuum machine. Vacuuming is the easiest and cheapest thing you can do to extend the life of your carpet and keep the air inside your home safe for your family to breathe. Regular vacuuming with a good quality cleaner will remove up to 80% of the contaminates that are living in your carpet.
